That mirror bracket is legit, DAAN. I do believe I will be investing in one of those.

you have a $4-500 radar detector? wtf lol. I'm +1'ing this thread as I'm curious as well.

I was thinking about something like this

http://www.amazon.com/Whistler-XTR-140- ... DFCXTVDM6I

Whats the difference between your valentine and something like that? Other then $400 lol

You get what you pay for. What's the difference between fake wheels and Brand name wheels? They're both wheels..

$400 to avoid a $100 ticket that would probably be dropped in court, nah id rather invest the $400 in springs ect.

I had purchased an Escort Redline ($495) and was excited to try out a "quality" radar detector. Now, it's possible that I ended up with a defunct unit, but I returned it and got a refund.

I had a couple of questionable incidents where I justified it by thinking "Oh, that cop must just not have his radar on" -but when I saw a state trooper standing on the side of the road pointing a radar gun at my car, and not even getting a beep or a signal from the Redline, I decided it was time to return it.

Speeding tickets are NEVER dropped in court. More like $400 to avoid getting points on insurance, not that I speed..I'm just sayin'

Of course you don't ;)
Think of it this way though...doing 75 in a 65 (that's reasonable, right?), then the speed limit drops to 55 --there's a $200 ticket right there. I'd consider it an investment that definitely pays for itself.

Speeding tickets vary state by state. Not sure what they're like in Texas - may not be worth the investment if a speeding ticket is $50 or something.

There is definitely a "you get what you pay for" with radar detectors though. Although, if police are using laser detection, there isn't much than can help you, unless of course there is some super detector that Valentine or Escort make that can "see" laser signatures.

For instance, I got pinged one time on the interstate a few years ago - was driving with cruise on - a tad over 70 on a 70 (maybe 72?) I approached a crest of a hill and started downhill and BOOM construction zone + speed limit drop to 55 + state trooper waiting. Total speed trap. There was little to zero notice of the speed zone drop. Had I been using a detector, I could have totally avoided that $400. (Speeding + construction zone fine - they tacked on the worker's present fine).

Radar detectors are essentially a false sense of security. You're better off buying a radar jammer for your vehicle.

The cheap ones typically have lesser detecting capabilities and actually bleed radar signals and make others radar go off nearby.

I have had a Cobra middle of the line detector for the past 6 years up until it finally gave out on me and I will admit that thing saved me many a tickets.

They're really best for the open long roads in which cops are using KA or K band, not so much laser.

And I actually just ordered the V1, installing it tomorrow. It is unique in telling you what direction the signals are coming from.

I love that feature of the V1, I wish other products offered that feature as well. Sometimes I don't always see where I'm getting tagged from so something like that is good to have.
