Had an eventful Wednesday. Installed:- Koyo R (2.1", dual core single pass) radiator- Rigid Racing black powdercoated radiator panel (Broke off each of the mounting screws...old and rusty = broken bolt)- 82^c (stock is 89^C) thermostat....who says you can't buy an upgraded thermostat in the US

Pics:Rad panel: http://www.rigidracing.com

Radiator (Koyo part #R1276 ) http://www.injectedperformance.com (NICO sponsor)

Thermostat (NAPA part# 536080)

Had a bit of an issue with the thermostat housing gasket. NAPA looked it up in their system, and what matched did not have holes in the right places. The big gaping hole for the coolant flow after the thermo was the right size, so I attempted to make it work, only to have everything back together and it leak...horrendously. I had to go to O'Reilly (Which I had bought the correct gasket from 2 previous times) to get the right part. Sigh. What started as a 2 hour max radiator install turned into an all day affair.

Expect pics of Cooling System Upgrades Ver. 2.0 by Sunday night.

Hey Rico, i'm heading to Houston this weekend to pick up the motor from Ameen and Amir. You wouldn't have a stock SMIC and piping do you? It'd be helpful if you go there and see if the motor is good or not too.

PS: My SN on AIM is Ishyoboimikey

Thanks,Mikey

I see you went with the aluminum Koyo. Were you having overheating issues in the summer, or is this just a preventative measure?

Nice, very nice. I never knew how much thicker the aftermarket radiators were compared to stock

Well, she would run around 3/4 to H on the stock gauge, and 160^F at the upper rad hose...a littlt hot for my liking. Since I will be having to make runs to Houston and Dallas more frequently (I am now a Moderator on a heavily Houston based 240SX forum...in the CA section no less ) I needed to be sure that my car could take 3-4 hours on the highway w/o drama.

And no SMIC man. I sold all of that a long time ago.

Hey capwred:

Do you know the manufacturer of that 160^ thermo? I contacted NAPA and O'Reilly and all I could find was the 82^C one. And at both establishments, the '88 Pulsar NX SE gasket was the wrong one. I used a 1986 Nissan 200SX CA18ET gaskt, and it fits perfectly. Some more info on your finds would be helpful!!

Take the 71 C thermostat it's 160 fahrenheit. It's from a pulsar 88 ca18de so it will fit. This about the only place I have been able to find it.

Honestly, I havn't driven it yet. I had an issue with the gasket then my e-fans wouldn't work. For some odd reason, when I rerouted the ground wire in a less conspicious (ie cleaner) location, it wouldn't ground. I moved it to my old ground, and they started up fine LOL. I am going to a class meeting in a few, but wait for the How To that I am writing for final impression.

BTW, I got mine for a hella steal. I highly reccomend shopping with NICO sponsors.

Koyo alone kept me from pinging 99% of the time in the Texas summer!

Didn't get efans installed until the fall.

when I did ping it was only on the highway, I have no airflow to the SMIC at speed due to front under and not having a hole direct to it - I have a proper bumper for this just not painted and installed (its blue, car is red)

That is like THE EXACT setup I was going to get (black cooling panel and Koyo). Except that I am using the Altima fans.

Well, what a concidence....I am running Altima fans as well

Well gentlemen, according to my water temp gauge, I am now seeing 10-12 degrees cooler. And when I formerly punched it from a low speed, the temp would jump up a bit...no more!!! Rock solid low temps!!

You guys should see the oil cooler that was delivered last nite....oh wait...you will

Altima e-fans:

Who needs a FMIC?

And a pic of my oil cooler parts (for those that don't cruise 240SX General) A How To for this (with part numbers and lengths) will be up soon! $100 worth of SS hose, $100 of fittings and plates, and $80 worth of B&M cooler
