last weekend i changed my fuel pump and the next day my water temp was goign crazy... i was driving in around in northridge with smoke in my cabin, needless ot say i was scared sh**less. hwen i arrived at home i checked my engine bay....water vapor was coming out of my overflow tank for the radiator coolant. i checked it and it was almost empty! so i drained the old coolant and ran water through the system then added a nice mix of 80%antifreeze and 20% water. when i was finished the car didnt give me problems for about 4 days ... then the temp started to flucuate. also since i got the car i noticed the driver carpet was wet under the floor mat. well last nast i notced the passenger side was wet too... =X we all know what that means.... now i was told that i could cut off the water to the heater from the pump..somethign a bout relaying the hose back to the pump..only problem is hta im a noob =X and cant seem to find it...soemone help me pleaseeee , i just need to know where the pump is and how to relay the hose back so it can negate the heating aspect. thanks!

The pump is what the radiator fan is attached to in the front of the engine, but I don't think it matters. The coolant does not go directly from the pump to the heater core. It might come from the head and go to the block or something like that. Look for 2 heater hoses running through the firewall and trace them back, then just connect the sources. Better yet, track down a FSM and look at the coolant routing diagram. That'll be a short term fix. I'm sure you'll want heat, even in SoCal.

and be sure to mix your coolant 50/50 with water. more coolant is very bad. nissan has a tech bulletin out saying that 5% too much coolant can drop heater output by 10 degrees. it does that due to less heat getting into the coolant and out again at the heater core. what this means is that coolant does NOT transfer heat well. water is much better for that. too much coolant can also cause excessive emmissions and water pump failure.
