So I had a heater hose blow yesterday on a car I just bought. replaced it and added a new thermostat. Engine got to the H level on the gauges. Slightly above it like others said was normal then the radiator blew steam out of it like a teapot. Not out of the cap either. Its like it just died on me. When I took off the thermostat housing the thermostat was open so I know it didnt stick closed. It was burping out of the radiator so I put the cap on. Thinking that was a bad idea now. Anyways, I cannot find anything regarding the cooling system of the sohc. Its all for the dohc. I can not find a bleeder hole screw like described on the forums. Any input would be greatly appreciated. I am soo tired of spending money to fix this car and not drive it far before something else breaks.

Siggy in Florida....

Ask the local Nissan dealer if the radiators are the same part number for the two engines. if yes they they are exactly the same which I don't see why they wouldn't be.

When you looked in the service manual did any of the thing from there apply to your cooling system?

Sounds like it needs to be bled I will tell you that. My car does'nt had a bleeder screw i know that but I like to pour in coolant while massaging the hose so the air comes out, try doing that slowly I guess.

thanks for the information. I do not have a manual yet. Its not in stock at the local parts stores and the ones I have found online are not complete. I am going to keep out the thermostat and get a new radiator it seems. I hope maybe this will help me bleed the system properly? I am now thinking the burping was a good thing and should have just left the cap off for a while.

I have a single cam too. They are pretty much the same as the dual cam regarding the cooling system. The bleeder valve is right where the intake manifold connects to the engine, right on top by the flange, closest to the front of the car. Use a socket wrench with an extention to get to it and put an ongodly amount of leverage on the thing. It has probably never been loosened before. I don't think its that though... if you had air in the block no coolant would be cycling and it (the coolant) wouldnt even be hot. How are your coolant levels? nice and full?

Thanks. I think I found it now. It says "never open when hot" and it looks like a 10mm bolt? That would have helped. I thought my levels were good. I have never had a vehicle I had to bleed the coolants. My mustang engines never had that problem. Open the cap, turn on motor, fill it, and put the cap back on. Apparently thats not cool anymore. I found a radiator on ebay thats aluminum and 2.5" thick for 140 including shipping. May just do that instead of 95 for a new skinny factory style one. I just know in a few hours I am going backpacking and can forget about all the things this car has wrong with it. Thanks again for all the input. This is the radiator I think I will get.http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...ories
