My engine self destructed about six months ago. Broken cams, timing chain, bent valves, and so forth. After a few months of scraping money together and slowly piecing this thing together, its finally running, and it runs really well short of one small problem with overheating. It has me stumped.

It will warm up to operating temperature, it will stay there for a while, and than the temp. will shoot upward. In the beginning I thought that it was due to trapped air, so I bleed the system. In fact I bleed the system a few dozen times. Here is where it gets interesting. The temp goes up, I stop and bleed the system, the temp. goes down and stays there for the remainder of the trip. I turn the car off and let it cool down, and than go for another drive. The same thing happens again, and I end up going through the same fire drill again. I looked for leaks and could not find any, even when she is running very hot.

The car has a new thermostat, but I am not sure of how old the pump is. I would appreciate the help.

did you bleed the system ok? there's the bleed screw that has the little yellow sticker that says "do not open when hot" and fill it up till you get coolant coming out of there. plug it up, keep filling through your radiator and sqeeze the upper radiator hose till you get all the bubbles out of your cooling system. it's a bit of a whore to do

Yeah that is the one that I used, but I did not let the engine run till the coolant started coming out of the hole. I will try this after work today. Thanks 180fan.

Hey that worked great 180fan. Squeezing the upper radiator hose did the trick. Thanks.

OK. I have the same type of problem. I have been told I blew put the heater hose right under the intake manifold. I need to know how hard it is to change the piece of crap or is it better to just put the thing in the shop to have it fixed? We checked the water pump and that's not the problem. All I know is that when I cut the engine off it blows all of my water out from the top of the block.

Pleas help me.

Also would a bad fan clutch cause an overheating problem?

yes a fan clutch would cause the problem cuz it won't engage the fan to cool the radiator.. but also there is a hose that goes from your intake mani to your hose on your collant in the back underneath your mani...

Also if it happens again in the future check the water pump and thermostat.
