:picard: sigh.... i feel stupid for asking this but i have noticed that ever sense i replaced my mechanical cooling fan with a electronic one the temp has been getting close to the H mark. but i can rest my hand on the valve cover intake manifold and radiator. it dosnt feel that hot and thats after 20 min of driving stop and go traffic. is my gauge on the cluster off or am i retarded and ruining my engine? :bash:

do you still have a shroud of any sort? radiator could still be heatsoaking depending on the type of fan/design :/
I had an electric fan and ended up switching it out (volvo fan) for a flex-a-lite kit w/ a built in shroud..fixed heat problems during my summers in florida. Dunno if this will help. GL

Is the fan on a thermostat or is it hard wired to the ign? Are you sure you have the polarity correct? What CFM is the fan rated for?

Those number-less temp guages can be deceptive because the sweep on a temp gauge is not linear like a tach; there could be 1/4 inch of sweep from 140 to 180, and then a whole inch of sweep from 180 to 220 or something like that.

yeah. im making a piece of metal to go between radiator hose so i can hook up my real temp gauge. i bought a really nice autometer pro comp liquid filled gauges for oil press and water temp. the oil works but the probe for the temp is too big for the manifold :bang so i havent been able to use it. hopefully i will soon though. i paid 120 for the temp gauge kinda want it to function..... :frown:

Remember one thing the electric fans if run on a temp sensor only run at that temp. A fan run off the motor is always running so the car or truck will tend to run at a more constant temp. The electrics will allow the temp to rise until the temp sensor says OKAY turn on. depending on the setting of the temp sensor depends on when it cuts on. get a aftermarket gauge and find out the actual temp as said above factory gauges are not specific to temp in most cases. it may be fine or it may be running a little hotter than is optimum.

its not a stock fan its run to a manual switch in the cab and i always have it on. i have aftermarket gauge i just cant use it right now but no blown head gasket yet so im guessing the temp gauge in the cluster is off.
