I had an idler pulley bearing seize up and it caused my fan belt to break. While I was replacing the bearing in the pulley and all the belts, I noticed my fan has quite a few cracks in it that are big enough for me to worry about. I'm wondering how big is too big as I see some guys have said theirs is cracked but haven't changed it. I know the local parts store won't have a fan for this car so it can't be cheap, but I'm sure cheaper than a new radiator if it were to come apart. Anybody have any experience with a cracked fan?

A few posts on this board.

Order a new one from Joe and replace it before you turn the engine again. It can be quite expensive to repair what a disintegrating fan can damage.

Yep! I dont like NAPA, all their stuff (espcially their tools) are overpriced, i think....

I wouldnt consider driving on a mildly cracked fan "unsafe". Just be sure to inspect it regularly... nearly EVERY Q ive seen had cracks in the fan, but yet, ive NEVER heard of the fan losing a blade... in short, its a good idea to replace it, but is it really necessary? The choice is yours!

Luckily I had all 3 belts that I bought from Joe, I was just waiting until it cooled down around here to install them, my hand was forced by a bad idler pulley bearing. If the price is somewhat close, I'll buy the fan from Joe. There is nothing like a part from the manufacturer as far as fit and function goes, I hate to buy something then have to modify it for it to work.
