what were your symptoms that led you to replace the fan clutch ? i'm wondering if mine is bad or not, it sounds like the fan is on the whole time when i drive around, its very disconcerting to hear it on the whole time until i jump on the freeway...

i'll check it tomorrow to see if it is the condenser fan, i haven't used ac or defrost mode in a while

the sound is difficult to describe it sounds like a fan on a mac truck, like the engine sounds like its pulling a fan along with it...

Just a long shot but It could be a pulley bearing. My AC belt tensioner pulley sounded something like that a few days before it self destructed.

thanks for the ideas guys I will have to look at it this weekend and see what it is about...I've just been driving one of the other cars to work the rest of this week, its a bonus to have 5 cars in my driveway, LOL...On the other hand I've been debating just selling the J30, I've had it for 11 years coming up and I might be ready for change...

hey guys i'm bringing it in to dealer to have it diagnosed to see what else is wrong with it or needs to be fixed, anyway:

from what i can see on inspection this weekend, it looks like the lower fan shroud came off at some point and it made contact with the fan blades, the fan blades end tips themselves are worn down a bit and have black melted plastic all over them, the shaft is straight but there's alot of play in the actual fan clutch that i don't know if that's normal

what i suspect happened the fan shruod came loose, the fan blades contcted it and that's hwo come i have bits and pieces of shroud everywhere in the lower engine pan area and desintegrated but the fan clutch burned itself out when it hit and so saved the belts and pulleys from being destroyed and leaving me sitting ont he side of the road...

is it a correct assumption that if the fan clutch is dead it is defaulted to the 'on' position ?
