Yup, heated seats were standard in the M37 but the heated+cooled seats were only standard in the M56. The V6 could be optioned with the cooling as well though.
As to just physically switching seats and everything being functional, I doubt it. The base model had a seat heatee module with one plug while the climate control seat has a 3 plug module.
Maybe lift your seat and check underneath for loose plugs.
That's assuming you are taking climate controlled seats from a 2011+ model and installing that. Using seats from a different model will bring its own set of challenges on physical fitment, color matching, electrical and airbag connectors etc.
