I'm BAAACCCCKKK!

It's been a long while since I posted and even visited on here.

I've finally moved into a house with a garage so I can stop going to shops to get my maintenance done. Anyhoo, I'm driving 100 miles a day now so different maintenance times are going to start coming up quick on me.

I've searched but didn't find anything...what kind of coolant does the 2008 V take? I see in the manual it states "Nissan Long Life Coolant or equivalent". What is equivalent? Just the normal 50/50 coolant?

Also, I'm used to flushing a car's coolant every 100k miles. Is that the same for the V?

I believe the equivalent is anything with "Dex-cool." you can get this at walmart for like 9 or 10 bucks. Let me know how you changed it because I want to do this myself. Be sure to cut the dex-cool 50/50 with distilled water only. Any minerals in the system will form deposits...reducing the systems efficiency.

Regards,
Jack

The LLC is meant to be changed at 100k like all other Nissan's with it. Usually normal coolant is about less than 50k to be changed. Follow NCJack's advice and cut it with distalled water ONLY.

DO NOT use DEX-Cool in these engines! Nissan uses good ol'-fashioned ethylene glycol coolant. Green coolant is standard off-the-shelf coolant; Red is Toyota's "long-life" coolant, Orange is GM DexCool, Blue is Volkswagen (Pentosin), VW also uses a pink coolant in some vehicles.

Ok, thanks guys. Yea...I knew it wasn't Dex-Cool. I had that in my S-10.
Changing it isn't hard. I have the Versa service manual in PDF. Looked pretty straight forward and similar to the other vehicles I've done it on.

In the 2009 service manual the procedure for changing the coolant is to pull a full vacuum and then let the vacuum draw in the coolant. This allows the engine to be filled with coolant without any trapped air bubbles. Does the 2008 manual show the same?

No, it just says drain from radiator, drain/remove the overflow reserv. Then unplug the heater hose and angle it up. Poor coolant in radiator until overflowing the heater hose. Pretty much the standard change on most cars.

I am not the most knowledgeable on this subject, but here are a few things I've found in regards to coolant for Asian vehicles:

- Nearly all Asian mfg's use a specialized P-OAT (Phosphated Organic Acids Technology).
- It's near impossible to find P-OAT antifreeze at the local auto parts store. The best place to purchase is the dealer.

If you guys want some light reading, Google 'P-OAT Coolant' . There are also many good discussions on the bobistheoilguy forums.

I for one intend to use the new Nissan Long Life (blue) coolant which is now standard in all newer Nissan's/Infiniti's.
