coolant temperature threshold for engine damage?

the reason i'm asking is my engine got to 220* F the other day but i've taken care of the problem since. It wasn't there for long, only an instant i'd say but it did rise to there.

probably OK, but you might check your compression.

i read up and saw alot of cars saw there normal OT ranged from 200-220 so i can't imagine there engines are any tougher than our little CA.

Ive gotten my engines temps to 220 twice, motor is still running hardcore. Think about it normal temps are 180-190 but the thermo doesnt open till 195*F whats another 20*F gonna do?
