Is the coolant temp sensor in the lower hose from the radiator to the block? Which means I'll probably have to drain the radiator right? (if so thats good, because I have all kinds of stuff floating around in it)

In the DOHC it's right in the manifold where the upper radiator hose meets the block. There's two plugs - the bigger one is the one that transmits to the ECU. You don't have to drain the coolant, just be quick when you take the old one out b/c some fluid will escape.

Don't remember exactly how it was on my SOHC but I imagine it's in the same location.

the sohc is in the same place as on the DOHC, small plug is for the gauge, big plug is for the ECU.

the sensor in the bottom hose is just a thermo. switch, it controls the electric fan.

hmm...so what exactly would I need to replace then? I was getting it mixed up with the thermo switch.

The Top One, unless your fan isnt turning on, then the other one Well, check the connections to the unit, clean em if corroded, then replace the unit (that they were connected to).

Sometimes it is just corrosion on the contacts that causes problems. Even if you are planning on replacing the unit, cleaning the contacts can't hurt.
