Yes yes yes, I know someone has recently did this, and even with picture but I was just curious at to what has to be done to put the new sensor where the old sensor was.

I heard you have to sotter the wires together, true?

...and if you leave the rad cap on, it won't even leak any coolant when you take the sensor out.

Okay problem..You know that little red part that comes before the yellow part that you connect, my car doesn't have it like that so I guess it's a different style coolant sensor.

Really? Someone did something to it then unless you mean the connector is just a different color (mine is brown). How is that wire harness connected to the sensor then? Can you post a photo?

Well this is what mine looks like(this is not it though)

So see, unlike the other pic of the one you posted theres no red part after the yellow part that connects to the harness.

newer connectors have the brown seal on them nothing to be alarmed about ...If you upgrade to newer Nissan injector connectors you'll see the brown seal on top of the connector too..

That's the same. You remove the wire clip and the connector pulls off. When you do, check the connector isn't corroded inside or it may not work right.

What about the harness, does it require some finesse?

Nope, just pull the connector off and move it out of the way a bit. I usually use a socket on the sensor, much easier than getting a wrench in there. Once the connector s pulled off, look in it at the terminals to see if it looks like there is green corrosion. This is one of the leading causes why the Z engine doesn't run right.

This is one of the easiest things you'll ever do on the Z short of filling with fuel, or cleaning the windows!

PS - why are you changing it I should have asked earlier?

Well the car gets bad gas mileage and was throwing a code 13, and t wants to die often.

Not to mention it just doesn't run nearly as smooth, but yeah.

Zwcked I think I should change both items, the harness and the connector, huh?

13 always was an unlucky number! You may not have a bad sensor, it could easily be just corroded connector. Do this before you buy a new sonsor unless you already did.Take the connector off and see if it has green corrosion inside. If that's the case, use a small file or dental pick and scrape it all off the connector and the 2 pins on the sensor. Spray some good contact cleaner on it and fire it up and see if that fixed it.The sensor can also be tested with a multimeter but this will tell you if that made a difference or not.A bad coolant temp sensor or connection make your engine run just awful, have poor fuel mileage and loss of power.

Yep I have all three of those symptoms, so I guess. I also reid to clean them both and it idn't to anything really(didn't notice any green corrosion).

Guess I'll just replace the connector and the thing that screws into the coolant pipe.

No need to replace the connector unless it's damaged. If it's clean and you got that code 13, next then replace the sensor.

It's contacts needs to be really clean as well as the pins on the coolant temp sensor. Make sure you also use some good contact cleaner on the terminals once you clean them all before putting the connector back on.

There are about a dozen connectors on this car that are susceptible to this same issue that at some point should be looked at, but the CT sensor fixed first.

I wish there was a way to repair these. Mine works fine, it's just the metal part that goes in the connector broke off.

Splice a new connector on. If the CT sensor isn't working 100% neither will your engine.

Haha, not trying to be a noob, but is it that hard to splice a new connector on? What's required?

Cut the 2 wires and splice the wires from the new plug back on. Soldering and heat shrink is best.

ummm, how do you got about getting the "RED" connector off the temp sensor its self? pry pull, or twist , I ask because I have the evil code 13, and also the 34 no big deal running a 92 NA, but I was having trouble with getting it to turn over a day or two ago. a few posts said the code 13 could be telling my ecu im overheating and wont let it start , so I cleaned the sensor. turns right over im gonna say 80% of the time no trouble , so I just wanna replace it. anyways back to the subject at hand.

the sensor on my car the red clip twists about half a turn . and I pretty much just want to do it right and screw something else up doing it

thanks in advance
