How hot is too hot for a turbo KA?

The stock thermostat is set to open at 170F, does that mean the optimal operating temperature of the KA engine is 170F?

What is the optimal location for an aftermarket temp sensor? I placed mine in the side of the block, there's a drain plug there on the exhaust side, so I removed that and I had the right fitting to make it work. It was convenient , but I'm not so sure if it's the best place for it, I'm thinking that the OEM sensor location is the best place....

I put mine around where the oem sensor is but on the hose, I used a autometer adapter. You cut the space in the house and put it in between. Its very hot in miami right now. When I have the ac on I reach temps around 190F no ac 180 or less. But is intensly hot in miami right now. I don't even like driving my car during the day here because the turbo starts to become a heat pump.

You can also use the air release screw on top of your intake manifold

Just drill it out a bit and tap it to fit the Autometer sensor.

Works like a charm and is pretty accurate.

as for hitting 190 with ac on is not bad at all. If your thermo is set to open at 170, and the car reaches 180, that sounds about right.

If you want and are worried you can buy yourself the nismo unit that opens at 143 I believe.
