Yeah, sounds like grounds. Add some and see what happens.

What did you alter?

To be honest, this almost sounds like the start of a bad a thermo to me. It's broken open and when you rev the motor, the water circulates quicker, lowering the temp since there's little to no flow regulation from the thermo.

The dummy gauge is not accurate though....

My gauge goes up to the middle when my autometer shows ~100-110 degrees, and stays in the middle spot until ~215-220.

If it's going down as you rev the car, there's really no way it could be the sensor reading a lower temp and reacting *that* fast.

It can also be as simple as low coolant. Pop the hood.

coolants good, brand new thermostat. i think i may have crossed the wires from the temp sensor and temp switch , one goes to the ecu and one goes to the cluster right?. i'll add some grounds as well as look up a wiring diagram. also could anyone tell me what order the wires are top to bottom that plug into the tps?

The cluster is a one a wire plug that uses a spade connector and the ECU is a two wire plug. Kind of hard to get them mixed up IMO.

I would highly recommend getting the service manual from the NICO Club FSM Library so you can be accurate in your wiring.

@ idle, how long does it take to get the temp gauge to the middle?

Sounds to me like it's what Hijacker said originally as well.

well my wiring harness was effed and a lot of the wires were pulled out of they're connectors. i cant seem the find the other 3 wires going into the tps. only the 3 that go to the bottom with a grey connector. i need the ones with a black connector as those too were pulled out

FSM should show the wire colors for hte TPS.

As to your Temp Gauge; Are all the other gauges ok or do you have them acting a little strane also? Possible answer from out in left field is that your altinator is startign to go bad and when you give it gas it has enough voltage to read properly. If all else fails check that. Soundls like youhav ebigger wiring problems though.

i'm having what sounds to be the exact same problem on my 95. it just started happening this afternoon on my way home from work. the temp gauge goes all over the place and when i rev it in park it bounces from normal to pegging out. i know its not over heating, because it does it from a cold start. please post if you figure anything out.

I had the same problem for a while on my 89, and it did just kinda start one day. I just went to replace the thermostat and there wan't one. hopefully that might fix the problem. But I'll see what you find out.
