my car is running cold but when i turn my car off i can slightly smell coolant. So i checked my hoses and i didn't have any pressure but didn't see any leaks. So i took it to my friends shop and we pressure tested the system and it held pressure and we didn't see any leaks. We put the cap back on and i started squeezing the hoses and we could hear pressure coming out the cap and into the overflow tank. So i since then have bought 3 different caps and they ALL do the same thing. Its a koyo radiator with about 2000 mi on it and it never gave my problems like this before.

Is it possible that the radiator cap seating surface on the Koyo has been damaged? Thats the only thing i can think of, you shouldnt be able to squeeze the hoses and have anything come out of the overflow(unless the system is pressurized to the limit already).

Make sure that thats happening. Take off your overflow hose then squeeze your radiator hose and see if coolant comes out the overflow. If no coolant comes out, put your finger over the tube then squeeze again to see if you feel pressure.

Also, why do you think your rad isnt pressurizing?

b/c after driving the car or while its running i can squeeze the hoses and i don't feel any pressure like it should have. and its running to cold, about 155 when it usually runs at about 165 to 170.

You have an electric fan, do you have it set to run all the time or is it thermostatically controlled? Are your sure your thermostat isnt stuck open?

Even when the cars hot you will still be able to squeeze the crap out of the rad hoses man, thats normal.

Yeah, i know what your saying but there's absolutely NO pressure at all. I can run my car for 3 hours and get out and just take the cap right off B/C there's no pressure at all. And yes the thermostat is working right, i can open the radiator and watch coolant cycle.

That was my next question, if you had taken the rad cap off while hot to test your theory. However if your system is running cooler than it should, it wont build up much, if any pressure.

I would replace your thermostat if you havnt done it. It sounds like its not closing when it should.

I mean if you have pressure tested your system, changed your rad cap, and checked over everything i previously mentioned, theres really not much else it could be.

Do you have a thermostatically controlled fan?

no, my fans are hooked up to my ignition. but they have always been like that. I didn't do anything, it was running fine, the coolant system was pressurizing, the temp was at about 165-170. then one day it just started running cold and not presserizing. I'm going to pull the therm to see if its stuck open.

You didn't answer the question about the radiator cap sealing correctly. If it doesn't seal, it can't ever build pressure.
