Ok so here the deal. My car, '95 240sx, is losing coolant somewhere, and while that really is a problem, the one I am talking about is for some reason the radiator isn't pulling from the reserve. Sometimes it does, but not always, and last night it sounded like the coolant was boiling and the hoses were extremely hot, yet there was plenty of coolant in the reservoir.

The hose between the rad and the reserve is open. What pulls the coolant from the reserve to the rad?

the reserve is called the overflow tank. it is only accessible when the pressure in the system gets too high, and the cap allows the opening to the overflow to open. Generally when this happens, there's too much fluid in the system, and it's used to siphon off extra fluid. Very rarely does it work in reverse.

As far as the problem goes, check every hose and connection. Make sure all of your clamps are tight, and that none of your hoses have cracks or holes in them. lastly, smell for the leak. Coolant has a sweet odor to it, and you can isolate it to a specific area by using the sniff test.
