Well, I'm out of state on a trip, and all of a sudden I see steam coming from under the hood. Pull over, and ther's coolant steaming and boiling at the rear of the intake manifold! Nothing to do but pull over and call a tow truck. Had it towed to the infinity dealer.

Just got the call from the service guy. Only $1400 to replace a leaking heater hose! $350 parts, $1050 labor! Christ, for $350 I can reaplce my entire cooling system on my Chevy! For $1400 I can get a new crate engine from GM!

Well, if you have to ask you can't afford it! Just had to let off some steam!

Tow it home and do it yourself

Parts are much cheaper herehttp://www.trademotion.com/par...=3221

Not to add insult to injury but your Knock Sensors are probably toast now as well.

See if you can find an independent to work on it. Heater hoses arent nuclear science.

Dude you bought an expensive *** Infiniti

I spent $350 on 6 hoses before. And $200 labor for entire job. Good luck. Everything on the Q is expensive, deal with it.

I feel your pain. I had the heater hose go out in the summer time. Luckily, I was not on a long trip like you but it is still a pain to fix. You have to remove the plenum to get access to the hoses and then you have to pay the ridiculous prices that the dealer wants for the parts. I think that both were around $300.

When I heard the price, I thought there was some mistake but it is true. Anyway, I did all the work myself and end up making my own heater hoses by mix and matching with what Autozone had in stock.

I think that the heater hoses should be added to the regular replacement item list. If the plenum is off, then it is a good time to change them.

I've replaced ~~ $17,000* in parts [ my wholesale cost] on the Q in 315k.

You haven't lived until you spend over $43,000 in parts and labor.

* My extended warranty replaced a ABS, transmission, and HVAC controller plus a few thousand ind misc................totalling over $8,000 in parts.

$300 is just a tiny speck.

Thanks for all the replys. Dealer now has me up to $1776. Had to replace two gaskets @ 132.00 ea in addition to all the rest. Total for parts is arouond $800, labor around $1000.

Sure wish I could have towed it home ( 500 miles!). Only paid $3500 for the car two months ago, and only planned to drive it for 3 months before I wanted to sell it. Now I guess I'll have to drive it some more to get my value out of it.

We'll be back at home in a couple of months. If it is still running, I will probably tackle the Chain Guides. Hope there isn't more of a major nature to go wrong. Trans, AC Compressor, Alt, Tires, Battery have all been replaced.

yep, guess I have moved into the world of "expensive".

Preventative maintenance and parts from Joe can save you a bundle.

Your timing chain guides are the next disaster that awaits you.
