coolant leak

i hope im posting to the right place this time.i own a 1985 nissan 300zx. recently as i was driving the car lost all coolant. i thought it was the water pump but after removing the fan and belts i poured water into the fill neck and noticed it came out from top of intake.looks like maybe a bolt or a freeze plug of some kind.any help will be appreciated

Where exactly did it come pouring out from? A picture would help.

And if it's a freeze plug, you have to replace the freeze plug. Simple as that.

if you look on top of the motor under the intake it looks like a bolt with a washer on it.it appears that it has moved or something.you have to look just above the coolant neck and under the intake manifold to see it so a picture wouldnt be possible for it takes a flashlight to see it.

So at this point, it sounds like no matter what you do, you'll be removing the lower intake manifold. At which point, it will be very obvious what you have to replace.

Removing the intake manifold isn't too difficult of a job. But it can be time consuming. The complete instructions are in the Haynes manual if you feel like getting a little greasy. Otherwise, find a good mechanic.

in case anybody needs to know it was an expansion plug.picked up one at the parts house and voila,no intake take off or nothing.just took a little redneck smarts.
