There are 4 freeze plugs on the side of the block. One of them might be leaking. One of them particulary is located right behind the power steering pump in the middle of the #1 cylinder.

I have a bad leak on the pass. side of the engine... I can't tell from where though. It doesn't leak at all with the engine off, with the engine idling it barely drips, and when you rev it it spews quite a bit of coolant out. I checked both heater hoses and replaced a section of one of them that looked questionable, but the leak stayed. I ran my hand down the length of rubber tubing that goes from the block to the oil cooler while revving the engine and could not feel any leak there, but the whole time I was doing that, coolant was still sloshing onto the ground below the engine. When I lay on my back uncer the car I can see the stream running over the starter motor, which I believe is above the "freeze" plugs. I'm running out of solutions unless the headgasket has sprung a leak and is leaking coolant... but I can't see where it is leaking from at all. Its really bothering me and its leaking bad enough that I've stopped driving the car until I can get it taken care of. any suggestions?

I guess if no one has had anything familiar I'll have to break out the FSM and see where all the coolant lines run and see which ones might be in the area where its leaking from (above starter motor), maybe the turbo coolant lines? I'd like to take the intake manifold off to see where its leaking better, but since it only leaks when it runs I wouldn't be able to tell unless the crack or slit was large enough for me to see, and if it was a blown headgasket I wouldn't be able to tell at all... there is no coolant in the oil or oil in the coolant by the way.

there are a few small coolant lines right around that area , especially if you have a model with the oil cooler. they are hell to get to , you have to take off the brace that runs from head to motor mount, then squeeze back in there to get to them. ive had to change one in the middle of the hood at 2am not fun do it at home if you can.

get a coolant pressure tester and pressurize the system and check for leaks. you should beable to rent one from a auto parts store for free or cheap.

I finally found it, running the engine and feeling around with my bare hands. It WAS the turbo oil cooler after all, had a small slit in it right where it bolts on. I got the end off that goes into the block but I'm having trouble getting to the end that goes to the oil cooler. I already remove the brace that goes to the block, and I'm getting more room.. just wonder how much stuff I'm gonna have to tear off to get to it.

nismonate, sounds obvious but did you check your turbo coolant lines?if its not them I'd say its probably your freeze plugs. Don't just hammer a new one in, take the old one out and install the new one with the correct sealant. If you just hammer a new one in over the old one it can block the coolant passages off inside the block and cause one of your cyls to overheat.
