Ok, so I developed a slight leak at the bottom of the waterpump. So, thinking its the waterpump, I replace it with a new pump from Phase2.

Leak is still there at the lower portion of the waterpump. I used quite a bit of RTV sealant and seriously doubt its coming from the new waterpump.

My question is what the heck is this plug for? Because the only other place it could be leaking from is from this plug. Anyone else have this problem before?

Theres nothing to really say. It is probably a hole made during the production that they just put a bolt in to fill. There are bolts like that all over the engine. I doubt that is where the leak is coming from. But I would not remove it.

I assume you waited until the RTV was dry before you refilled the engine.

also you should really clean off the metal surfaces with a solvent (acetone, brake parts cleaner, etc) and let it dry before you apply the rtv

Thanks for the help.

Yes I cleaned both surfaces completely and yes I waited 24hrs before I filled with coolant.

I guess I'll try using brake cleaner and also making sure the surface is machining completely flat.

I just replied to the thread you started but going to add some information to this one in case someone finds it while searching for an answer.

That bolt fills in a hole created during the manufacturing process. Do NOT remove it. It's impossible to move and has nothing to do with anything leaking coolant.

I had originally started this thread because after replacing my old waterpump with a new one from Phase2 it was still leaking even after re-sealing it several times.

It turned out that I happened to have received an OEM waterpump that was defective. After contacting Phase2 I paid for yet another replacement which has been working great ever since I installed it months ago.

That plug is for the OIL gallery that runs the under pistons Oil Squirters.Just so you know, wherever you see a plug like this in te engine, its to plug up a Oil or Water gallery.

If you pressurise the Coolant system, you dont see where the leak is comming from ?

If you see coolant drops in that erea, it either comes from the Pump itself, or from the Coolant hoses under the manifold. You could have the actual leak at one part of the engine, and see in a totaly difrent part.

Good Luck.
