Well, the infinity dealership says that these coolant bypass tubes, which feed the heating core, have a leak AND THEY HAVE TO DROP THE TRANSMISSION! HUH?? I did notice a small leak from a few drops in my garage, but nothing substantial. It hasn't leaked in a while but that could be due to the low fluid levels.

Anyone have any experience with this? Apparently, this is a common thing for 10-15 year old QX4's. Mine is a 2001.

I'm wondering if I can take it to a trusted mechanic that wil not charge me $1500 to fix!

Thank you for your assistance!

It is true that if the crossover tubes are leaking from the gaskets you need to drop the trans to gain access, they are half way down the engine against the firewall

And for reference, I just had transmission work done, and I was charged $600 to remove and reinstall the trans, add an hour or two tops to change the gasket and I wouldnt imagine to pay over $750 for the job.
