so ive got a fully built ka, brand new, never run, with wiseco piston, pauter rods, complete head work to the max, and i'm currently installing it into my 92 vert. it will be a future ka-tall new oem gaskets were used (except the headgasket).i have installed the intake manifold onto the motor and connected all hoses, and vacuum lines. all accessories are bolted down.going to add new straight coolant in the motor via the main top radiator hose into the thermostat and so forth. i notice a good amount of leaking and dripping almost immeadiatly. i see its coming down from the ist cylinder area where the intake manifold (top part) meets the block, (front side, intake mani side). i notice theres 1 bolt that wasnt bolted in during the intake manifold assembly install onto the motor. so i put a bolt down, and refill. its still leaking again, almost rushing. i put my finger down there and blew through the hose (lol) and could feel plenty of air blowing through.

im not sure if the intake manifold gasket was off there or what; its brand new. i didnt use any type of gasket maker.should i just pull it off again, check for marks on the block/manifold/gasket and redo with gasket maker. this motor will have a turbo inn about 2 months.

check the fsm for the coolant flow. mr brothe rand i know too well how much fun leaks from the heater hose and throttle body can be, lol. im replacing most of them this weekend or next. if i can get a camera i should do a nice write up.

Yha that intake gaskit can pita. But most times its ok. Take your intake manifold back off. I would say its your gaskit. Remove it and make shure they are butting up properly. I would order an new one there not that much. slide the new gaskit on there and check to make shure it mates to both the intake and the head before you tighten it back down. Should not need to use rtv. If you have a hoist or just use a small mirror on a extendable rod. Add coolant and get that thing leeking like a siv. You should find right were its leeking for shure. I know one time i redid an intake gaskit kuz the sob would not seal. The new one did first time.

yeah this fairly easy and happens all the time.

you forgot to clean the head and intake manifold surface off. a little bit of old gasket left on the surface will cause a huge leak in that exact spot.

very, very common, and it usually happens when people are too eager putting their KA back together. so jsut take it off and scrape all the excess off with a razor blade

I have this same issue with my ka but instead of a constant leak, I can drive my car down to the corner and when I pull it into the garage I can hear and see coolant hissing and spraying from that exact same spot. Any suggestions as to what it could be. I changed the intake mani gasket twice, then pulled the head, replaced the gasket, made sure all the surfaces were good, and still does the same thing. the only thing I changed differently when I did my build was a koyorad. other then that everything for the cooling system is stock. the only thing I can figure is that the thermostat is not opening and the water pump is forcing coolent past that through the bypass hose and building up too much pressure in the rest of the system and causing a blowby in the pass of least resistance, ie: intake gasket. however, I would assume that the rad cap would go first correct? :wtf2:
