coolant in reservoir.. not getting to radiator? water pump?

i have a coolant leak .. and im pretty sure its coming from the water pump.. if the water pump is bad... will it keep the coolant in the reservoir from reaching the radiator?

No, it will not. The radiator cap that does that.

Thats why they also call it the coolant overflow tank/reservoir

well, the coolant from the reservoir probably won't get into the radiator if the water pump is screwed, since it won't put any pressure on the system.

ok, so when everything cools down thats when it draws coolant from the resivoir, becauese it pulls vacuum, now if there is a leak it wont make any negative pressure. the water pump has nothing to do with this. what you need to do is drive the car as little as possible and fill it through the radiator, and fix the leak as soon as possible.
