So I had added some coolant to the reservoir about 6 months ago because it looked low; although it turned out it wasn't. Finally got around to taking some out today so that it was at the max level line.
This is what it looks like, Image

My oil level has not dropped at all and it looks fine on the dipstick and under the cap.

Nothing is leaking, I park in the same spot everyday and the ground is clean.

It's only been a 1 1/2 years since I flushed the coolant.

How is this brown? Is it from rust?

Thanks bud! I have started to hear a quick squeal either when I turn right, even just a little bit and when I speed up. It lasts about 1 second. The noise started about a week and a half ago. I looked at the serpentine belt (which I just changed a few months ago) and it was clean and on properly.
Thanks

the belt turns the water pump. sometimes a slight strain on a poor pump will cause squeaking. it will get more pronounced during idle. i'd seek further advice from a mechanic who can either test the coolant or give you a better reading on whats going on. i'd also change the oil VERY soon and look for any foamy/clumps. that will indicated oil & coolant mixing together.

rusty water will also produce rust chips that will clog the radiator, so dont delay on the repair(if needed).

Got it. I was thinking of changing the oil and sending it out for analysis to see if coolant mixed with it.

I just got some coolant testing strips and tested it.
Here are the results.
Coolant pH was 6
Percentage of Glycol was 50%

pH - 2nd one from the end

Glycol - at end of strip

well went and flushed out the system yesterday. Took all day. I did 6 drain and fills, last 2 were probably overkill, but I wanted to make sure it was all gone.
I now think what happened is that the distilled vinegar I used last flush probably stayed in the engine block because I used just a little bit in the very last flush. So I'm guessing that made the pH so low and turned it brown. I don't know how long it's been like that could of been a 1 year, 6 months :gotme . I think the noise from the serpentine belt is just a coincidence so now I have to check that out.

when you are letting the bubbles out of the rad, with the engine on - watch how well the fluid is circulated around 190-220F. if it doesn't move = poor pump performance.

I used this Lisle 24680 Funnel, highly recommend when flushing coolant!! :dblthumb:

I noticed that the fan and thermostat open up at 208F. I was watching the water in the funnel and it would move. Definitely had bubbles at that point and the water would move down and up a little.

I took the serpentine belt off this morning and checked each of the pulleys for any side to side movement. The only thing I noticed was the auto tensioner pulley had a tiny tiny bit of play. Other thing was when I spun it around with my hand I could hear the bearing a little bit.
