I have a 2010 nissan sentra with a 2.0 l engine 31000 mi. Recently the coolant gauge the one with the squares, is reading 1 or 2 squares higher than it was. consistently running 7 total squares. was wondering what your gauges are reading? my heat works good car runs good. just thought something maybe wrong. can run all around town I get home and the bottom radiator hose is cold. I let it sit and while idling the thermostat will open after 15 min heating the bottom hose. it has been cool in Tenn but not like up north. Thought maybe the colder weather has something to do with it. Does your coolant gauges run differently in the winter compared to summer? how many squares does your sentra show at operating temp? Love this site. has helpd me out many times.....

dealer said it was not a big deal. I had a lumina that had a gauge fluctuation for a week then the head gasket blew. Jiffy lube didn't bleed the air out of it when they flushed coolant. that's why i just drain and fill coolant no flush.

I think they should run at 4 squares when fully warmed up. Something's not right if you're at 7 squares, you're under warranty, have them fix it before it's too late.

took it to the dealer. they said everything is working good. they said they somehow put a thermometer on the on the engine drove it around let it idle. The temp was steady and right where it should be. The gauge is technically reading in the normal range. don't think there is much more i can do....

Faja you only have 4 squares? you said you "think" 4 when warmed up. I don't remember ever having only 4 when warmed up. did you confirm this with your sentra? mine starts out with none then as my car warms up i get 3 squares when its fully warmed i get 4 more then it stays there. These things aren't really gauges. they are kinda vauge to begin with. I wonder what the "normal" range is in degrees. Maybe my coolant sending unit is going.

I get 4 squares all the time once it's fully warmed up and I've checked with some other B16 owners (07 -09) and 4 is correct. Maybe they changed something in the 2010+ models I don't know. In your first post you said it's running 1 or 2 squares higher than before so something must have changed?? Whether it's your engine overheating or maybe an electronic fault with all these new computerized systems it's hard to say but you noticed a difference in the gauge. The dealer is telling you everything is normal..... I don't buy it. Take out one of their demo cars and drive it around for a while and see what it reads....

thanks faja i will. If they won't change out the coolant temp sensor that will be something i'll do. its only 20 or 30 bucks and 5 min to do. the car runs good the heat works good, mechs says its good, coolant level is good. the rad hoses are good no leaks. the CTS its seperate from the ECT sensor in the block, CTS runs the gauge only. I have read that its common for them to fail on nissans
