Coolant Bypass Hose??? Someone help A.S.A.P.

I had a leak in one of the coolant hoses under the intake mani. I took the hose off and got a new one. Today I finally got the top one on but cant get my bigass hand in enough to grab the bottom one. I thought I should just take the mani off but I don't want to go through all that trouble if there is another way. I then started thinking, "Why is it called a bypass hose?" I started looking at the FSM and the picture looks like it just goes into the intake collector and back into the thermo housing. I was wondering if anyone knew if I could just plug those holes up and be ok? I am hoping I can just plug it at least until I get the time to fix it, this is my only car. Here is the FSM picture with the hose I am talking about marked in red.
