That looks like computer generated animation.. I thought Initial D was Japanime like Tranzor Z... or Voltron or what not..... (is that racist or something... man I'm an insensitive bastard!)

Initial D is animated for the character parts, but from what i can tell, all the drift scenes are computer animated and look just like those pics. Looks pretty sweet.

Actually, it really is computer graphics...I watched the DVD and they were showing how they did all that stuff, and was all CG...

Cell art are single graphics generated by computers.... kinda like using 3d studio max to create those images.

Actually, cell art is hand painted cells. Thousands of these cells are used to make one episode. Initial D is both cells and CG. The character scenes are hand painted animation cells and the drift scenes are CG. It is really good anime. The CG parts in the later parts of the series are really good.

actually yes it is regulaur cartoon animation for the character and the main story and CG for the drift scenes...however some CG is used in the regulaur part also...for example a character opens the hood of a car....the engine is CG. i think it's called cell-shading???i have the intial d set.....stage 1, stage 2, stage 3 the movie, extra stage, and battle stage....got it on multi-region DVD from ebay for $90 shipped. i also have a DVD-R but i am sorry i am a bit weary of copying them. but it is a great series and very entertaining....worth $90 to own. the one is extra stage if you ask me.....it's a side-story about the sil-eighty in the story. or 1st stage....the gallery that was posted i think is a fake. atleast not produced by the same people. i think the CG in the actual cartoon is much better.
