Na the veg oil is dielectric and you don't need the fans any more so you pull them. They just left them in for the test rig. I've seen this done a lot, I researched it after ACE 2.0 mentioned it in the carputer thread.

The only drawback is that at excessive temperatures the veg oil dose not stop oxidation. But this only seemed to be a problem in sub station transformers operating at 1000+F. They still use veg oil they just load it up with additives to stop oxidation and thin out the oil.

But with a stout @ss pump and 1.5 in. tubing you can still use strait veg oil with a radiator. Though most people d n't even use a radiator, even with everything over clocked the temp usually does not get above 120F. Hell mine gets hotter than that playing BioShock.

You've obviously never been to the Tom's Hardware website huh?

Those guys are ingenious. I can only assume they know anything and everything to do with computers, and specifically overclocking them. I remember when they first started making 1Ghz processors, Tom's already had one pushing 3.5 Ghz. They test everything they do and show you proof like the video you saw, so you know they arent BSing. Do yourself a favor and check out their site. Then kick yourself in the *** for even assuming anything they do is a bad idea.

wait people just run veg oil as coolant? who doesnt use a radiator lol do they like frying parts. and to the angry dude above no i have not been to the website and i am not denying the fact that it could work. im just sayin i dont think i would ever do it my computer is to expensive to be testin crazy ideas sorry ( ask max hell second that) , but also my main point was if u pulled the parts how would u get the veggie oil off?

Yes, Yes your computer is crazy expensive and sexxy(I'd hit it), Um and ya getting the oil off is really not an option, but there are only two reasons, well three that I can think of to do this...

1. Old parts and you don't give a damn about them.

2. It looks really cool(Damn I wish fish could live in Mineral Oil).

3. You have every thing over clocked 10x higher than stock and thats the only way to keep it kool (A pelter in min. oil would be awesome, no need to worry about condensation.)

Oh and the reason they don't use a radiator is because the massive amount of liquid soaks up and dissipates the heat really really fast.

This is really just an extreme but I thought it was cool any way.

240knightride -- I'm thinking of opening a computer shop and ya I have an old P4 that would make a nice window display in oil. Thanx

Video was cool. Had seen something similar years ago. It's been done for quite a while now. Oh, and to the skeptic, it really does work, and it cools much better than air.

Ok ok, I think we figured out that oil=cool, but were kind of straying from the idea of this thread. Any one else have any thing kool?
