Hey guys, long time no see!

I recently just moved into a new place and need something to decorate my walls with, specifically in my room. I'm getting tired of looking like a nerd with just a lame TV and two diplomas. :gapteeth:

Aside from "normal" art, which is completely subjective, I wanted to see if you guys had any ideas for automotive art/posters. You're all car people, so I'm guessing you guys reflect that on how you decorate your humble abode! I'm in my early 20's now so stuff earlier than say the 50's doesn't really interest me. But I'm also not twelve and don't want to tape three Lamborghini posters to my wall.

Any ideas? I was thinking something along the lines of an old poster (framed) of the Nurburgring. Maybe some other famous tracks like Spa, Monaco, etc... I'm pretty lame when it comes to art (I'm an Accountant) so throw anything out there.

how about pictures of yourself driving on one of those racetracks. Take a high performance driving school course, either in your own car or one supplied by the school. Most schools have professional photographers on hand to take them. If you're an enthusiast, a framed action shot like that might generate more conversation than a framed college diploma. Something like this...

In all seriousness, we have a piece of street/local art from everywhere we've traveled together. Not that art store s***, we can't afford that. More like the dude on the sidewalk that you can haggle with.

I used to have beer mirrors, but those are now in the garage/man room.

A few years back, I picked up a huge stack of vintage newspapers from the late 30's- early 70's at an estate sale and framed the most historical ones. Pearl Harbor bombing, WWII ends, Man on moon, armament of ships on the ocean in WWII, etc. Their yellow aged paper and a simple black frame go very well on almost any color wall. However, you will need acid-less glass to keep the paper from deteriorating. They're good for convo or just to read while you're brushing your teeth in the morning.

You could get a print then put it in your own frame. I remember some chick telling me Hobby Lobby or some store like that has them for cheap.

I have a bunch of world rally championship pictures on my walls, along with a few I took myself (of Greg's cars).

I need to pick up another picture too. I was actually thinking of getting a NASA launch from Apollo 17.

Totally agree with this one. Before I went to college, I did some track days in my old 240sx. Sadly, the only thing I have from NASA HPDE is one small picture of me driving around the track. I framed it though!

That's a great picture! I haven't seen the dime since it was finished and only have seen Bella in its early stages.

College and student loans totally ruined building/working on cars for me. I feel like the only Accountant anymore that actually likes wrenching on cars. :frown:

I've seen a few Steve McQueen racing posters around as well as some old Porsche art that I like to pick up. Every time I go in to somewhere like ZGallerie or something similar I find something and say "Hey! That's cool" only to find out it's $500+. Ugh...

We should get a photo printer service to sponsor NICO.
I've always used MPIX.com. I really like how their prints turn out, and their framing seems top notch to me. Every time I try to frame something myself, it doesn't quite come out right. Not sure if its me, or the cheap walmart frames I buy.

Another option, if you get a car you love and want to immortalize it, is to contact Russ Schwenkler, aka Dangeruss, on DeviantArt or on his website and commission him to do a piece based on photos you provide. His rates are actually pretty reasonable considering he's designing a one of a kind piece of artwork for you.

Start going to Michael's instead of WalMart. You'll pay a little more but will wind up with a far better finished product. They frequently run specials too, so check your paper (if you get one), call them or look for a deal online.

I like aerial photogrammetry of local surroundings. Having Laguna Seca and Big Sur nearby makes that an easy choice for me. You can get photo data from the aerial business in town and print it onto photo satin with a wide format plotter, then frame that. I like Bill Patterson's art, but it's out of my budget, and maybe more living room than bedroom material.

Something I've done a lot of is to find high-res pics (online, IDGAF) of certain artworks, or brochures, or scenes - save them, clean them up, and take them on a jump drive to Sam's Club and have them printed in poster size.

I have a 2'x3' poster of a Datsun 411 wagon brochure that's too damn cool.

I really like this one, though it sits in my garage. It's the corkscrew, matted, put into a box type frame, then I put a slit in the top of the frame and drop my tickets from the track in there. I thought it was a better way to display my tickets than a giant rectangle collage. Sorry my flash kinda messed up the photo.
