As weird as the thread title sounds....

There's a large field behind my house, where my younger brother and a large number of other youths from the area ride their quads/dirtbikes/etc.

Just noticed the other day, while walking across the field that's there is quite a few groundhogs holes, and I saw a couple of them running around. I'm not against just shooting the things and burying the carcass somewhere..... but are they worth eating?

If it is edible, and if anyone's got any pointers on cooking it.... I'm all ears

lol, that's exactly the kind of reply i expected.

I figured i'd be semi-responsible with my pest control and eat the thing if possible. But i guess i'll just ditch the body somewhere.... maybe we can toss a groundhog in the back of jon's car with the hookers.

If they are in a field and not bothering anyone, why bother them?

hitting a hole in the ground @ 40+ on a dirtbike is not alot of fun. I'm honestly kinda surprised the things are still out there considering how much noise and activity goes on in the field.

Where should they live if not in a field?

i would expect it to be similar to eating a rat. now if you want something thats a little odd but delicious go down and get a rabbit and bbq it. better than chicken any day.

Actually, I like rabbit. Friend of mine has a bunch living under his woodshed at his house. So we're going to let them grow over the summer and once rabbit season comes

Here you go:

http://www.briansbelly.com/rec...shtml

http://www.hevanet.com/refugee/recipe/gndhog.htm

http://www.gamecalls.net/wildg....html

http://ushotstuff.com/Game.Rec...ndhog

The first one instructs you to "Dress groundhog as for rabbit, removing the small sacs in the back and under the forearm. Soak groundhog overnight in salted water to remove wild flavor." At least that gives you a clue how to get it ready to cook.

Although it doesn't address groundhog directly, I don't see why it wouldn't work in some of the recipes in B.R. "Buck" Peterson's Road Kill Cookbook.

bon apetit!
