Converting Videos to play on Stock Bose Navi

Basically I've tried searching for the resolution, file container and format to endode videos into to play off a usb thumb drive via the Bose head unit with Navi. So far Ive come up that the codec is MPEG-4 and the container is MP4. Not sure about resolution though. I am using Handbrake to convert btw. Can someone please chime in on this? Also Ive searched many places high and low and cannot find a specific way to bypass the dvd for our car( I have the hardware based navi). I may be wrong but it seems like talk about this on this forum is kinda frowned upon but if you do have information please feel free to send me a PM.
