what all has to be done to convert our tops to a manual top? My top motors shot anyway and i'd rather shave the weight. And when i convert it to manual is there anything else i can get rid of?Thanks

I dont know what you would want to do this. sounds like a dumb way to save 20lbs but to each is own.

you need to disconect the convertible top lift cylinder, it's located behind the rear window.

This is what it looks like.

thanks alot. sorry i havnt been on in a bit. But my motor and i think the cylinders are bad also. the motor sounds super weak and it doesnt do much of anything. What i'm using the car for doesnt justify me spending a ton of money on a motor and new cylinders.

I think I saw a motor on eBay a couple of weeks ago and starting price was $25. I wonder what was the final price. 240 vert is kinda long unlike Miata, s2000 and z4, so you have to get out of the car everytime. I don't think that's fun.

fun or not i dont mind to much. The whole summer the top will be down. Theres nothing of value in the car its empty. If theres an outlook on the weather channel for rain i'll simply drive the avenger and toss a car cover on the car.

During hte winter the top will be up and wont come down at all. The only possible time the top will go up or down more than once a month is when theres a sudden rain shower in the middle of a sunny day.

I have been debating on taking the top completly off and not running one. I'm alittle hesitant until i get a 3rd car though. At the end of the year the avenger will be paid off and i'll pick up a 3rd car and this will be viable and probably happen. In the end i may end up fabbing a detachable hard top for track purposes. We'll see. Most think manual tops are a pain, but think i dont care much about that as it wont be going up or down much, along with i'm converting to manual windows in the next couple of weeks when the coupe doors go.
