NO no no... It's not what you think. I'm not going SR, I promise!!

.....what I am doing, however, is tossing my GT28RS bottom mount, for a T3/T04E top mount. Just got done reading a recent thread on which T3 to use for what HP goals, etc. But to throw it out there, I'm getting rid of the GT28RS .86ar for something along the lines of the .63ar T3/T04e with 50 trim stg 3 wheel. I loved having 12psi at the 2200rpm mark, but after alot of research and change of driving style(especially after going KA-T), bigger numbers are looking more and more better Looking for 400-450hp. I already have Z32 MAF, 740cc injectors, 255 Walbro HP in the tank, awesome FPR, and a massive FMIC. Engine Management will come after I choose a turbo to half-way match what I have. Been thinking MegaSquirt, but that's another story. Basically need an opinion on what turbo to use for 400-450 hp on what I already have.

Thanks in advance!

just get yourself a gt2871r or if you have the funds a gt30r and keep what you have instead of spending more money on a top mount mani, downpipe, hotpipe, intake. for the price of those you can get yourself a gt series turbo, bolt it up, tune it and call it a day...

Because he realizes that the T2 flange is extrmemly small and not going to flow nearly enough. Its not all about the compressor here fella's.

The 2871R on a KA is going to be a friggin heat pump. So to upgrade to a T3 turbo, you need to upgrade the manifold as well.

Jump on the gt32 bandwagon. I've had mine for about 10 months and I love it. Although I got mine from Precision. Comparing mine next to the AMS it looks identical(without actually doing any measuring). I think this turbo is very well suited for the KA. Also for what a ball bearing t2 will cost you can get the gt32 and the manifold if you shop around.

Yes sir. I would love to keep the T2 stuff because the way I have everything set up in the engine bay, it just looks like I have a glorified intake pipe. The FMIC is hard to see because I cut only what I needed and put the 'ricer' mesh in front of it to hide it. The T2 manifold just looks like a header from the top at a quick glance. Everything together gives me that 'sleeper' look. But now since I'm rebuilding and putting the right guts and whatnot into the motor, I would like to utilize everything. And like WD said, the T2 is a heatpump if trying to push more than like 6-8psi IMO on the KA. Yea, the GT32's been in my line of sight as well, but I'm still trying to grasp the whole T3/T04 concept. I know it's not much different, but every small detail can make or break your build/tune. I appreciate all your input thus far! And I haven't slept but about 11 hours in the past 4/going on 5 days because of all this reading and researching. And one more thing...if the forum ever crashes, I'm sure I can recall just about everything from the KA-T side of it..

I think youre on the right track with a T3/T4 50 trim, unless you can get a GT32 for around the same price...

My next turbo will probably be a GT35R, but may be the T3/T04R or GT32. Also, out of morbid curiousity, I would like to try the T3/T70.

A GT2871R would be fine given the right tuning. But I think that for 400hp, I would still go a Turbonetics ball-bearing T3/T04e. Unless the price is the same as some of the GT options, then live la vida GT.

T3/T70 sounds like a surge problem waiting to happen. The TO4R with a .58 AR hotside is ok though.

I thought the same thing, but they claim lightened internals to bring it to speed faster. Still not likely enough for a T70 compressor's inertia.

Its the early spool that will be an issue, I doubt the KA will need that much air. So you'll get surge at low rpms...

OK, you lost me... So T3/T04e -or- T3/T04r ?What's the difference between the two?I also saw that you recommend the .68 AR for the T3/T04e and the .58 AR for the T4/T04r.. Is the T04r a bigger turbo that would require a smaller AR to get the spool/boost up?And I just checked out that AMS combo... That's fackin' sweeeeeet!

If I can ditch/sell the GT28RS .86 AR bottom mount setup I got to someone with lower HP goals, or an SR owner, I'll definitely be on my way to that AMS setup.

And thanks again everyone for reading and posting your input!

Is it an actual Garrett GT28RS, or the eBay one? Also, how did your cyl walls look when you broke those ringlands. Did you have to bore or could you just hone it out?

The TO4R is a full frame T4, not a hybrid T3/TOX turbo. The KA is a small motor, so unless you want quite a bit of lag, like 5000RPM, you'll stay away from the TO4R. Its a drag turbo, I have a ball bearing TO4R with a .81 AR that I'll have to use Nitrous to spool.

The T3/TO4R is not a good combo IMO either, because you're not keeping the TO4R compressor in an efficient part of its compressor map.

THE best turbo for you is a T3/TO4E in 50 trim. With a .63AR exhaust housing and a stg 3 wheel. This turbo will flow plenty of exhaust gas, while putting out enough air volume to reach close to 500 before it becomes a total heat pump.

Looking at the torque on Angel's dyno graph, he reached full boost by 4500rpm on his T3/T04R using a T3/.82ar turbine housing with no nitrous..

Here is the turbo i am going with, I am running a 50trim now t3/4 60A/R .48 exhaust side w/ a stage 3 wheel, It spools pretty quick(about 2700 rpm full boost, but if you want a decent spool and still good for lots of power, T3/4 60-1 w/.63 exhaust side, I know guys making close to 400 whp on 16-18lbs with it spooling around 3500 to 3800 rpm, http://cheapturbo.stores.yahoo.net/gat3w63ar.html

Yeah it is big but if plan to go for high hp ever, its a good size turbo with a decent spool, and they also have a 60-1 with a .48 hotside which would spool much quicker.

It is an actual Garrett GT28RS. I even have the paperwork and the Garrett box it came in. And the cyl walls looked good, surprisingly. The only damage done to them was when it sat for almost 4 years and the walls got rusted a bit and pitted/stained. Other than that, it still ran fine with broken ringlands. BUT it had hellacious blow-by under boost.. lol Blew off my valve cover vent and shot oil all over everything.

E-Mail Fixing to be sent. Hope you're reading all this and can shoot for 250-300 hp and still be happy. Spools like a mo-fo though!! I'd like to sell the Bottom Mount KA Header, GT28RS, and Turbo Elbow all at the same time. Not only to get it off my hands, but to aid in the installation.

You guys have to remember its not all about the compressor and how much volume it will flow. It does no good to have a HUGE compresor if the exhaust housing is going to choke the motor with back pressure. The .63 AR is the smallest you should ever go with a compressor of that size. I hope you're running quite a bit of boost, or that turbo isn't going to be very efficient.

The T3/TO4E in .63 AR is good to about 475-500 depending. More then almost anyone in here will be making.

Also, I think it is important to mention that with a larger compressor, you will in turn be moving more air and making more exhaust gas. So with a slightly larger A/R on the turbine, you still will have more air moving through. So with bigger turbos, spool cannot be judged simply on the basis of A/R.

Also, as WD pointed out earlier, what is the risk of surge with a smaller A/R on a turbo like that?

Exactly, which is why on my TO4R I have a .81 AR. But its also a full T4, so I doubt I'd have surge issues anyway.

With a .63 AR I don't think the TO4S compressor will surge. But I'm guessing...

I'm still a huge fan of the basic T3/TO4E...no eed to run anything else IMO. Unless you're going for more then 500WHP.

Yeah, right now, I am wishing I had a little more turbo myself. I have a Stg1 T3/T04b V-trim .63. It will be good for moderate power and intensely fast spool when you consider I also have a Fidanza Flywheel, Steel Driveshaft, and Pulley. I don't know why that was important. Maybe I am just a post whore.

Ok guys...I am fairly new to turbocharging having only recently gotten my first 4cyl (Ive driven nothing but Mustang GTs thus far). As my info to the left says, I have a 94 Hardbody with the KA24E and a 5-speed man. Ive been looking at the JGS kit for that engine. I have the install figured out but now it looks like I need your help. The turbo is a Turbonics 50 Trim T3/T04E with the choice of either a .63 or .48. My goal is a STREETABLE turbo job (meaning a quick spool). Is this a good direction for me to go? Keep in mind, THIS IS A TRUCK and I do have plans for a lift. Thanks in advance...and sorry about the steriotypical "newbie question".

Go with the Eaton M62 blower, since it will be safer when you hit mud, rocks, ****, etc. This will give you significantly more TQ, without the hassle of turbo failing in the middle of, well, wherever the **** you are.
