technically you need to be EPA certified to do any sort of a/c work. personally i wouldn't even bother doing a retrofit without a recovery machine. also make sure to pull out the shrader valves out of the stock fittings before you install the retrofit fittings.
nissan wants you to remove all of the old oil out of the system, which includes draining the compressor and replacing the drier. this isn't really neccessary, but you do have to add new oil in before the actual charging of the system. you do this by running the a/c system (emptied and dried) with a sealed bottle or container of oil hooked into the low/suction side, and then you can procceed with charging.
the kit i used on a z32 had multiple applications, and im pretty sure anything you'd get would be the same. if you have the time, replace the o-rings. you paid for em so might as well and it reduces the chance of leaks. also, if you need to you can apply a light coating of a/c system lube to o-rings to make installing them easier. use disposable rubber or w/e gloves. a/c lube has a wierd reaction with some ppl causing some nasty explosive poo (i speak from experiance, had an a/c blow its pressure relief valve in my face, i was on the crapper within half an hour)
last i heard its a 32000 fine, and if you get busted at a shop, the pull all the r/o's for a/c work that was done by that tech and he is personally responsible for the fine. sucks... btw the EPA test is 15 questions, open book, mail in, and the certification never expires
