Hey everyone, this is my first post. I have recently started to get into the 240 scene, and cars in general. I just purchased my 1990 240sx se, and not even two weeks after, i blew a head gasket. When i took it into a friend, he basically said he had to replace all the gaskets, as well as a general overhaul of the engine. Now while it is apart, i was looking around to see what modifications i could do to it. I also noticed a couple of people selling the head off of a DOHC KA. IS it plausible to just put that head on a Ka24e lower block? Do i have to replace the steering rack? and will increasing the the power of the engine like that cause any pressure issues with the rest of the engine, or any over all issues with doing something like this. Thanks for your time!

I THINK its been done before, but the manifold patterns are different, so you'd need to get a new intake manifold and exhaust manifold. I also think it changes the compression ratio in the engine quite a bit (if its even possible), along with a wiring nightmare. Basically, you'd be better off just swapping in a DOHC engine and harness.

Oh, and Welcome to NICO! :)

If you are going to get another motor just get another ka24e or rebuild yours. If you're going to go through the hassle of changing all the electronics get a sr20 or whatever. The ka24e is a simpler motor and more durable and only has 8lbs less torque than a ka24de. Why bother?
