converting a KA to DIS with coil over plug's, anyone have any info?

Information on the naturally-aspirated KA24E and KA24DE engines.

i have a set of Q45 coils with the boots and all but they are too short, so what would fit or are there any spark plug wires that would fit into the coils and fit inside the KA's head? (mounting the coils remotely is preferable for hood clearance and not having to modify the valve cover)

CBR 600 F4i coils work great, but you'll need a standalone ECU that can run sequential or waste spark.

ok, went to the junk yard today, started experimenting with my bounty when i got home and found a different solution, expect a short write up in the next 2 days

ok, i used spark plug wires from a late model dodge neon, as they fit pretty well.

ok, got it done:

1: take the Q45 coil, pull the boot off

2. pull the cylinder piece on the spring out

3. using a screw driver or bunch, push out the conductor inside the boot, from the top (dished part of the boot)

4. removed the small cylinder/spring from that and install it into the coil pack in place of the shorter one you pulled out

5. using the plugs from the neon, trim off the rubber all around the upper part, to make a smooth cylinder, otherwise it won't fit totally into the KA spark plug bore

6. i installed the coils on the side of the motor. pulled off the clips that the stock wires pop into and using longer 10mm bolts, i bolted them down next to each spark plug bore. there are 4 on the s14 valve cover, sop it worked out perfectly. you'll also need to bore out the holes on the coil packs a bit to fit the 10mm screw. i went in half way from one side and finished from the other to prevent the plates from seperating

Q45 coils are 80,000 volts a pop

car doesnt run yet... its a long project... as far as wiring, wire it up the same way as the stock coils. with a cat the car should pass a sniffer test but this car is getting registered to be emissions exempt when its done. dunno about sr20 coils, but if they fit, then you can use them too. i opted to mount em on the side for hood clearance and cause i couldn't find nissan boots long enough for the KA at the junk yard

I'm sorry I don't wanna sound like an idiot but did you say this wires up like your stock coil, or are you using a megasquirt???

You can try CA18det coils and plug wires. The head design as far as heigth is concerned is almost similar.Plus the valve trains are interchangeable I wouldn't be surprised if the electrical was as well.I did see your write up further down the thread....NICE
