Has anyone replaced the convertible top on a 240sx? I was wondering how hard of a job it is and are there any special tools (like a staple gun) necessary?

I took it to an upholstery shop and they quoted me 9 hours ($500) to do it using the new top I already purchased. Is this a reasonable price?

Thanks in advance

I was quoted around 800 for parts and labor on mine. I was replacing the rear window after it cracked during the winter last year. One shop quoted me for the whole top saying it was an integrated part. Thankfully I found a shop who could cut the old window out and stitch in a new one.

On to informing you how much work is involved in replacing your top. Nissan sells a supplementary service manual for the convertibles. It is 20 chapters, and 18 of those are devoted to the top and its components. The other two are the hydrolics and the electricals. It is definitely not a job for the faint of heart, and you will need more than a staple gun.

Best bet is to let the shop handle it. Not only will the slip the new top on for you, but they will make sure that the cross beams of the top frame are properly aligned and everything fits nice and snug.
