Ok, looks like we need a new topic here in the Vert forum. Has anybody had the problem I am having with my convertible top wrinkling as in the photograph? It has been this way since the 2 months I have had it. Presume it to be the original top. The front 2 panels are wrinkled but the back seems to be taut. Any suggestions? Doesn't seem to be any cable adjustment in the edge as in some makes and models. Anybody????Note: the right side of the picture is the front end of the car.

Did you check it under the sun? Mine is kinda loose and wrinkling in humid or rainy day(not this bad though), but it's tight when sunny and dry. I think that's one of those tricky things that you have to be careful when you install a top because top is humidity sensitive. If you look at the front of the top, top cloth goes down and tightened by the retainer. You can remove retainer and tighten it. As far as I know, the top is glued there, so you have to be careful when you try to remove it. Are you going to replace your top soon? If so, I wouldn't mess with it. If not, I would fix it. Just get convertible service manual supplement and you will know what needs to be done right away.

P.S.: You have white stitches on your top, so I think you still have original top from the factory. Mine has black stitches and it must have been replaced at some point.

this is why i think it happens but i could be wrong.. where the top meets the rear window on the top ( highlited in the pic ) on my car has pulled away from the window causing the top to get loose and thats what i think cause's the saging and wrinkling. this is what i think.

There's velcro under there. I pulled really hard and adjusted it, but it didn't make much difference. Yeah, sxxy1992 you should give it a try.

My top is wrinkled a little bit. It's also faded too being that it's black. I tried fixing the rear window with the velcro but it was no use. I will be replacing my top later on however so it's no big deal as long as it's still functioning right.

so, if I'm following correctly, by pulling back on the velcro area at the rear, it may stretch some of the material at the front and relieve the wrinkles?? I'll give it a try. thanks. Not planning to replace any time soon as this is my new work car. Right now has 70,000 miles but in 4 years will have 170,000 miles. What a fun ride for cheap.

Yes, if you look at the underneath of retangle area, you will see velcro there. Separate, pull and reattach it and see how it works. When you do that, release the top locks, so your top is loose little bit. That way it'll be easier for you to pull. Let us know how it goes. BTW, when humid day, I hear flipping noise because the top is constantly touching the bows. It's annoying, but I got used to it.

Are you going to put 25,000 miles a year for the next 4 years???? That's a lot of mileage.

Great. I'll try that with releasing the front part first. Yes, it is a fun car to drive and I have searched quite a while to find one that is a multipurpose car that is in the shape mine is. Wish I had bought it new but 22,000 would have been outrageous for me in 1992. And with this forum, if any headaches form along the way, there is always someone that eventually helps solve the problem. Mine is completely stock so don't have to be too concerned about something that isn't working right because actually it is the wrong part, etc.......Do you know where I can acquire one of those convertible service manuals? thanks.

It used to be on eBay all the time, but suddenly they disappeared. I have '240sx supplement,' '240sx convertible' and '240sx manual' in my eBay favorite search, but haven't seen it forever. I asked books4cars.com if we can arrange group buy for this and the manager said no since it's hard to find.

Yep it was an EG hatch..guy driving it looked like a high school student. He looked real happy driving it because the whole time I saw him, he had a smile on his face.

Yea if I had a RHD car, i'd drive it as often as I could...that's if I had no worries of theft.

The guys with nice cars come out late at night...usually when i'm asleep lol

This is something that dealership uses to service 240 tops. Have you seen thick 240sx FSM(Factory Service Manual)? They didn't include vert service manual there since there are not many.

Yes, yes, that is the manual that I have on its way. reread your email and realize you have 2 or 3 search phrases to find the book if it is available on ebay. Yours says 1992 and I thought the one I ordered said 92-93. Probably 1992 and it is used for 1993 also, huh?? Anyway, I tried stretching the velcro just a little bit and it may have helped but seems to be more left and right issue than front to back. Some convertible tops have a piece of aircraft cable front to back on each side to keep that part tight. Guess I will just wait til the book gets here and then will have a better idea. but thanks for all the tips. Especially the boook. Been waiting for an opening there.

Mine is 94, but as far as I know this supplement will work for 92, 93 and 94 verts. Yes, there are cables left and right, and you will see them in the manual.

One more thing. Check if all the frames are all even. When I got my car 2nd bow was crooked. Passenger side was higher than the driver's side. It looked stupid that way. So I pushed the passenger side down with my weight and also pushed up driver's side little bit. I lied on my back on the seat and pushed bow up with my foot. Anyway, I aligned all the bows even that way. Man... I'm telling you. I've had enough with top, bows and quarter windows.

Cables are running through here IIRC. I think your problem is more like front and rear, not left and right. You know what I mean?

truth be known, my problem is that I just need some sleep......ha! just got off working 12 hour nite and all this is starting to run together and make not much sense. You are right however, in that there is a cable running front to back on both sides. Looked a little closer and can feel it with my fingers. When the book gets here, I may learn a few more things about the old rag top that I didn't know existed. I sort of like them. I know that when you have one, and you get rid of it, soon everybody lets you know you did a really stupid thing like got rid of it. and before long, it really sinks in. So, plan to keep this one. But I guess I could see myself buying a new top and installing it down the road if the books makes it look fairly easy. Books are really nice. I ordered a shop manual off ebay and received what was perported to be an original but I think it was a reprint even tho the book said it is not to be reprinted (imagine that??) Numerous pictures in the book were excessively inky and dark and didn't match the others. I called him on it and he said he would send one that he knew was an original. It arrived and sure enough, I believe it too. Yuo can see thru the pages to the stuff on the other side of the page. Pages are thinner, and pictures and drawings crystal clear. Very nice copy. Supposed to credit me $10 and price of shipping back to make up for my trouble (also front cover was torn) but so far no soap. Haven't sent my feedback yet either til this is done. Looking forward to this book on convertibles that is said to be an original also. Between the 2 books should be able to solve most things on the car, huh? I am in southeastern Washington. where do you reside?
