I've had to a lot of junkyard searching and almost have all the pieces I need. Some pieces are still available through the dealer (nissanparts.com). If it becomes a problem for enough people we could invest in getting new parts made but that would be big $$. I know a place in cle that would shoot small quantities of injection mold rubber/plastic parts but the initial mold making would be $1k-5k depending on the complexity of the parts. Unfortunatly with less than 8k cars having been made and not all needing replacement rubber no company is going to take the time/effort to make spares.
Now that I think about it, It's highly unlikely, but,ASC did the american convertible conversion over here. I assume they had some place make the rubber for them. Most companies (the one i work for at least) keep the molds they had made at the place that made the parts for them just in case they need it later. (I've toured shops with piles of molds that were never claimed back by the companies who had parts made, they simply get forgotten about) Perhaps someone could contact ASC and find out if they still own the molds or the name of the shop who did the rubber who might have the molds still? It's likely that the shop is around where asc put the cars together i.e. find rubber shops within 30 miles of asc and ask them . If they still do maybe we can buy/borrow them and pay for a run of parts since nissan stopped carrying/making them and thus no competition problems.Just a thought.
