Hi there, new to this forum, hoping to get some intel on how best to deal with top problems on my 2009 g37. the car is at the dealership right now. the car over last couple weeks has had the top stuck half way open/shut and would only retract back to open position after restarting the car, and finally would go nowhere (stayed in stuck position) so we had to bring it to dealer. during one of those times a 6 inch wire from somehwere in system got stuck on headliner which we believe was preventing open close correctly. over the last several years there have been a handful of times when top would not close, the first time it happened i called the dealer and they had me restart car and it would retract again, so when it happened again after that, thats what i would do. the error message i was getting these last 2 weeks was 'trunk open' - when I know it wasnt when the convertible open process began, as i always check to make sure nothing is in trunk and that separator was up and then closed the trunk.

the dealer is stating that all these problems are occurring becuase we must have left something in trunk, as the onboard computer is reporting 8 incidents of failed retractible events. I explained the above procedure, and feel that something has been wrong for a while causing those reports. They want to charge me $1900 (minimum) to fix the headliner and get it operational again.

does anyone have any expereinvce with problems such as these?

:gotme What a bunch of bull, your car's still under warranty... it's the hydraulics of your top is an issue, I know people had some but covered under warranty. I hace 09 convertible, no such issues.. what wrong with your dealer>? :poke:

It's time to call Infiniti corporate or find another dealership service department

Try another dealer first and have them write up the issues and diagnosis. Once you are armed with the info and dealer refuses to fix under warranty then contact Infiniti Corporate/ customer Service, good luck

Thanks for replies...I will find anpther dealer to get opinion and then deal with corp...do you think itneedsto bean other infinity dealer or could it be a different dealer that has deals with retractable hardtops? The hassle of all these shop visits with 2 yr old is challenging!

I can't say what the problem was, but I saw one going down the highway on a flatbed with the top in the "half open" position a while back. So no, these are not unheard of problems.

Roof's hydrolic pump system must have failed for roof to be stuck half open...
