I just bought a 2008 roadster in excellent condition, including the top. Is there any special treatment that I have to apply to maintain the top. Especially any protection agains the ravages of UV.

Also, is the top vinyl or cloth, or some hybrid of both. I have a 2001 MR2 Spyder with a cloth top and the Z top doesn't look like my cloth top and it doesn't look like the old vinyl top that I had on it.

Thanks!

Sorry I didn't answer this sooner. I'm not a ragtop guy and was hoping someone with firsthand experience would chime in.

The manual says to treat the top like cloth...

"When the top is quite dirty, wash using a mild detergent, such as a general cleaner made especially for a cloth top or a general purpose dish-washing liquid, mixed with clean, lukewarm (never hot) water."

I'm not sure what you should use for UV protection, but as it's cloth, I'd like to think that it would hold up better than if the top were a vinyl/pvc concoction.

Hope that helps a little.

I have a replacement cloth on a 2001 MR2 and looks great after 7 years. The vinyl original was in very bad condition. But having the car garaged vs just parked makes a difference.
