hey my convertible is not working right. I press the top up button and I can hear the motor but the top won't go up I have to pull it for it to go up. Same for going down. I don't have a clue what is wrong, I checked the fluid in the pump and it looks ok to me. Any help?

i'll be on in the morning to check posts so post away with some answers

Could be several things...

One, could be as simple as turning the valve on top of the pump. Mine was partially turned when I bought it, and made the top SLOW to move.

Two, seals in your hydraulic rams could be bad.

Three, system could be sucking air but not leaking fluid... hard to find w/o a spray bottle of soapy water and a lot of patience.

If there's little to no resistance in moving the top manually, I'll bet it's #1. Hope so, as that's an easy fix!

BTW, make sure to enter your vert in the Registry (top of page).

You see the knob on top? It should look like this pointing 6/12 o'clock. 3/9 o'clock is closed and 6/12 o'clock is open.

Are you the original owner or just got this vert? I'm asking you because if you didn't close the valve and suddenly doesn't work it means something else is wrong. If you just got the used vert this way, it means previous owner had a problem, so he closed the valve to prevent something. I'd pull the rear seat and see if there's any leak.

it worked perfectly fine when I first bought the car, but now all of a sudden it doesn't move unless i press the button and have some one else move it manually.

I think there's not enough pressure to push the top up. You should remove the back seat and check for any leak. Make sure to check line in trunk too.

well i find the problem and I wish I had my camera with me to show you what I am talking about because it is kind of hard to explain but I hope one of you knows what I am talking about. There is like a bar looking thing that screws in to something that I guess pushes the top up and one of them is broken.

So the ram is broken, or perhaps the support that holds the rams in place?

yea b/c one side will lift up a little but the driver side is broke. And I have no clue how to get it off. I took the back seat out and the rear quarter piece off and I have no clue how to get to the lift to remove it. If anyone knows help a brother out.

Did you download the FSM supplement for the 'vert yet? There's an entire chapter of the top workings, that should shed some light for you.

Right click and save..http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/24...t.pdf

I bet Dan would make you one. he just fabbed up a couple for his car. In fact, he'll probably have the other side just sitting around..

See this thread and ask him about it.
