Greetings all,

long time lurker, first time poster, lol.... I've got a '92 vert, and recently the top started to not close completely... it still completes it's cycle, and comes all the way down, but i have to pull it towards the nose of the car to get the retainer hook to grab it's slot and crank it the rest of the way down. my logic, which may be completely faulty, says that there may not bne enough hydraulic fluid in the pump? anyone else experienced this issue?

before i get jumped, i tried several different searches, looked in the faq/stickies, etc, and didn't find this particular issue.

thanks to all the posters of this forum, what a fantastic resource for a fantastic car. I've had mine since mid january, and am in love, stock KA and all. i'll do an introduction post with pics soon, i just have very little free time, and its usually after dark by the time i get out of work. but i can say, i think you guys will be impressed by the gem i found.

thank you in advance for your input on this.

Even when new, they didn't go all the way closed.

Cycle your pump and top off the fluid, though... There may be some air in the lines.

I'm just taking a shot in the dark here, but maybe just a hydraulic fluid change will help. Or you can check the valve in the trunk that controls whether the top will go up on it's own or you have to pull it up, it might not be turned all the way?

Also post up pictures fast, I'm in Orlando too and would be sweet if I recognized you out there.

it's probably the cleanest red vert around orlando, i've only seen 2 other verts here, one was a beaten dowen white one, and another red one that had what looked to be rash from rubbing against a semi tire on the highway... ouch. anyways, I'm re-painted red{no black stripe down the side} new black top, 35% tint, stock rims and ride height{til next week}, and a full exhaust, tubular headers, hi-flow cat, and big 4" tip magnaflow fart can. i'm new to the import thing, i've had trans-ams and corvettes all my younger days.

you go to any of the meets around this area? would love someone to ride out with.

I wonder why...

Is that why you got rid of your top?

I think its designed that way because theres a little handle to pull the top down with. It usually closes to about a 1 inch gap, and then you pull it down a bit and the clamps do the rest. I think Greg ditched his top for weight savings

Yeah, there needs to be tension on it to keep it all straight and smooth, no flapping.

Sounds like it's working exactly right.

I doubt it closed 100% before... if it did, it was out of adjustment.

Same thing happened to me yesterday. The only difference is that my top is to far away to hook on now, hopefully I can figure it out soontimes before the rain comes in!

But who needs tops anyways!

Mine's the same way, but if i reach behind me with my left hand i can actually pull it forward manually enough to latch, although it is difficult.

Yeah thats what I had to do before...like really had to pull on it, So i'm guessing the pump just needs some more fuel.

alright, well I 'm pretty sure you're not supposed to be able to pull it up manually, at least thats the case with mine. Check to see if the pump is working and that it has enough fluid. Check for any leaks also.

Again, it is normal to have that gap there. Like biggie said, it creates tension on the top to lessen vibrations and to keep it from flapping around.
