now i know im not the only one with this problem, while your driving your convertible top looks like a dome because the fabric is stretched or seals are bad or something, is there an easier fix rather then replacing the top, mine is in really good condition except it looks like a dome as i drive so i fell to replace the top would be a waste

I would start by checking the seal at the windshield, then all the window seals. You can have a friend ride with you and check for air comming in while you drive. Could be your top latches need some adjustment. Check for air comming in at not so obvious places, like around doors. A mis-aligned door could create a leak. If you have water comming in when it rains, this would be a great place to start.

It might not be a "leak". The top of the car experiences lift (think of a plane wing) when the car is in motion, and if the fabric has stretched out, it creates a bubble.

I had the same issue, though probably not as bad as yours. I redyed my top with Renovo and then treated it with 303 Convertible Top Protectant and the fabric tightened back up after it dried out.

I too have the bubble, and ish is right about the airflow across the top of it. The more surface area the air has to pass over, the faster it has to go relative to going across a flat surface, thus creating lift, thus creating our lovely bubble.

I'm looking into a possible solution for mine, as the velcro across the rear window has completly deteriorated. I think If I sew some nice industrial strength stuff across it and get it to pull tight it will help out tremendously.

also, if you want to see what it looks like bubbled up, just turn on the fan full blast, get out, and shut the door.

I'll try and get some before and after pics of my experiment.

The real problem is that the top is anchored to the 2nd and 3rd top bows by a piece of cloth. Basically, a piece of metal is slid through the loop and then screws hold that metal strip to the bows. Over time, that piece of cloth deteriorates and there's nothing anchoring the top to the bows.

Ah... I did find a fix!

I went and got some 2"wide velcro and adhesive epoxy, glued it down where the old velcro was. Used clamps with the top half way down and pulled the fabric tight with the top slightly up once it had dried.Every once and a while I need to pull it tight again, but thats only once every four months or so (usually in the summer when the top's going up n down all the time).

Hope that helps!
