I'm getting the run around on what's up with the struts for the verts. My mechanic tells me that the rear struts were borrowed from the 300ZX as well as the rear springs. the front strut is th ebase 240 even though it's been mated to a stiffer 300 spring.
While changing my brakes last week, I took a look at the strut, and it looks like a base 240 strut right down to the circular mount (300's have a fork mount).
I talked to Dan at PDM (or was it Don, don't remember) and he hasn't worked on a vert yet, so he doesn't know what exactly about the struts is different. He thinks the load rating is different to support the extra wait of the top, so in effect, you could put a stronger strut for the base 240 (such as JIC or KYB) and have no problem.
Since he didn't know too much about the verts, Dan told me to look up a guy named Harp Dekar (i know i have that spelled wrong, cause my cell started to break up when he mentioned the name). Does anyone have any information on this guy? Dan said he's the convertable expert.
Lastly, I did go to the Nissan dealership to see if they could shed any light on the subject, and that came to no avail. I was told the easiest way to find out would be to go to a junkyard and pull a 300's strut and see what matched. Boo.
There are a few vert owners on the forums, so I think it would be beneficial to us if we could open some light on this whole shock deal and get the facts straight. If you have a vert and have upgraded the shocks, post what kind of shocks and if you've had any problems so far.
