I'm doing a change over, and I have access to the L series truck that it all came out of. As far as I can tell, it should be bolt in. I have everything from fan to rear diff. I assume I need a different radiator, but I am going to go custom for that. I'm using the L series alternator, and trying to get all the wiring, as to rid myself of this horrible 30 amp Mitsubishi Charging system. If this gets to complex, I may go to a GM one wire. Anything else I should know, like major frame differences? This is my first 521. I've had many 620's and 510's.

you will need to cut out the old motor mounts and weld in the L-series ones...totally different styles.

my J series mounts are bolted to the frame. There's no mount pillars when you unbolt them. I would assume the L series pillars would bolt in too, from a same bodied truck. Mine is an "L521" instead of a "PL521" like most I have seen.

look at how the J series mounts to the frame..the L series has mounts directly across from each other...

somewhere I have a pic on my other 'puter....anyone have a pic to show him?

Your also going to need to goto the 2 piece driveshaft out of the L series truck.  The slip yolk into the tranny is not the same.  The a solid shaft all the way to the carrier bearing, and the rear shaft slips for axle articulation.

i ended up making my own mounts, but used a trans from a 72 620 that was just like a 510 tranny, it was the same length as the 1300 trans, and used a slip yoke. i used the origional tail shaft mount, so the lenth is the same, all i have left is cutting the old radiator extension out for the 510 radiator and the I'm putting a GM one wire alternator in, so i can use all my accessories at the same time.

Damn, i guess i need to find a trans out of a 620 then.  I want to swap the L out of my parts truck into my air bagged 521 with a J series.  My only problem was when i set up the suspension, i set it up for the one piece shaft, and didnt want to change it to the 2 piece.

you just need a stock 510 trans,or a dogleg 5 speed from a 79 200sx. they use the stock 510 driveshaft, and fit L series. This 621 i pillaged was an oddball. It was a 72, but they diddn't make 620's until 73. It used the bolt on shifter, instead of the pin-in, like the 620/z car. people will usually give away the stock 510 4 speeds, because everyone goes with z-car/620 5 speeds. I have 3.90 gears in my truck from a 510 wagon and 17x8's  from an 02 pathfinder, so a 4 speed is plenty good for me.  I can cruise 70mph no problem.

Yea, 77-79 dogleg 5 speeds are the way too go as far as having an extra gear inna 521-

My brother brought up the whole "bigger tires for 4-spds" thing awhile back too,
and the more I hear about it the more I think about getting a stocker....

(spotted a nice green looking one a few days ago off of a main highway, plan on asking about it today...)
