I have a 2007 M35x VIN-JNKAY01F67M459308.
I purchased a control module set on eBay. I of course missed the number on the ECM by one digit, 971 versus 970. My question is if I replaced all the control modules: ECM,BCM, key fob port, ignition control module, proximity sensor, and the steering lock would that work in my car? Oh 971 was the correct ECM#
thanks,
Jeff

The digits in the Hitachi number all matter, the MEC85-970 also shows to fit your MY but it almost certainly has different firmware and may have tweaks in the way some internal hardware behaves. There's are eight '971's on eBay for under $50, I'd get the right part. That still won't guarantee it has the right programming, the Nissan part number is determined by the firmware and can only be uploaded with a capable scanner.

Vis the ECM, BCM, IMMU (fob doghouse), and I-key Unit (if it has one), none of them are plug-and-play unless you get all of them from the same existing vehicle along with the fobs. If any one of them is mismatched, the fobs won't work and the car either won't wake up or won't start until you get the fobs reregistered by a dealer or smithy. No other parts are involved in security, only those.

Hello,
All of the modules are from the same car with key fob. The only physical difference I found was on the start button. It has 2 wire connections instead of 1. Would I be able to leave my start button in or is that the smart key module? Thank you for all your help.

I'd have to see the two buttons to answer that. Some of them have the backlighting on a separate connector, but that wouldn't matter. Others have the IMMU antenna separate, and that would.

Here is a few shots of the new start button assembly. I'll have to take the other one out so give me a little bit to walk to the car and remove. Thank you again for your help!

From what I can see in the FSM and InfinitiPartsDeal, your original button should be self contained with the BCM or I-key unit driving the IMMU antenna. The one in your pics looks to have a smart IMMU integrated with the button. Those definitely wouldn't be cross-compatible.

If every component was swapped would it matter where the antenna was at as long as it was powered?

Yes, cars with stand-alone antennae are driven by oscillators in the BCM's, cars with "smart" IMMU's have the antennae integrated with microcontrollers which talk to the BCM's on a serial bit-bang. They're 100% incompatible systems, and the wiring is likely to be incompatible in consequence.

Ok, well do you know anyone interested in a complete control module system with key fob?
Lol!
Ok, so at this point I do have a correctly numbered ECM in my car. Can a locksmith program that too my car or do I have to take to the dealer? God I hope not as they screwed so bad on some repair work that was covered by insurance I swore I would never get anything worked on there again. The insurance coverage was the only reason I went there in the first place. Thanks again for your guidance on this sir.

You're most welcome. Most smithies can handle anything before about '13, and some are equipped for later stuff. You shouldn't have any problem getting an '07 done.
