Hey Fred, you may not remember the post below. It is now in the Infiniti Articles section and it is approaching one year old now....> >--------------------------------------------------------------------------------> Originally posted by BionicQ (45):> in the Q and see if the lifter tapping stays away.>--------------------------------------------------------------------------------> > You may have to do several applications with> ATF/seafoam/MMo to make it go away permanently.> > Fred... I use seafoam every now and again and I suppose thatthe MMO is a BG product. About the ATF... how muchand what brand would I use? How long would I leaveit in the crank case before changing the oil? Isthis safe to do regularly? If not, what would be agood interval? My next oil change I will beswitching to valvoline durablend 10/40 as opposed to10-30. Will a heavier oil mask the sound of thelifter (which is virtually undetectable now)? Lots of questions but I know you are the oilexpert. Thanks in advance for your time Fred!Chris

Chris,

-MMO is not a BG product-Do you change the oil w/in a week of adding the seafoam,? (otehrwise the varnish may re-deposit as the seafoam concentration in your oils goes down).-Some members have had the most success with ATF, use MOBIL1 ATF, in a Q you can put in a full quart, and let it idle (or drive <very> gently) for at least 30 bettter 40 minutes <right before your oil change>If done right before oil change and just idling/or gentle revs it is perfectly safe, I have done it at nearly every oil change in the last couple of cars I owned.-yes a heavier oil will cushion better and many have found lifter noise reduced that way , it's certainly worth a try, with summer coming a 10w-40 is a good choice anyway.-The DuraBlend is a good oil especially in 10w-40 where it meets ACEA specs (one of just a feew non syns to do so)

I gotto run, am late for something.

Fred...:)
