Every time I open and close my sunroof, a giant 5-7inch light gash appears on the TOP of my sunroof (the outside part). I looked in the FSM and only found directions on how to fix it if the scratches are on the inside of the car. I'm afraid to use my giant sunroof now which is a real loss. What can I do to fix this?

Panel needs adjustment, look in FSM for directions- maybe something stuck in between roof and sliding panel?

Yea I'll take a look in there tomorrow. Do you think adding some of the soft velcro to the inside of the sunroof assembly would help?

permanent fix will require removal of obstruction and/or realigning sliding roof panel. Adding felt/velcro will be a temporary band-aid at best without correcting the cause.

Right. It's just kind of strange that it started right after I washed the car (including the sunroof) maybe something got washed in there? I may have to just realign the sunroof like you said though...

There's the hook and the loop. I'm talking about the loop.

Don't know if this has to do with it, But make sure the sun roof rails are greased, and grease anything else that looks like something touches it and need greasing.

I just did a sunroof job on my Q...

There are 2 small clips that allow you to slide the interior panel back... You have to get at them with a screwdriver from inside the panel..

Once you slide that back, there are 4 nuts that hold the sunroof panel onto the track. You can raise/lower the sunroof by taking out a shim or 2. On mine on each corner there were about 5 really skinny shims that allow you adjust the height...

I have some pictures if you cant figure it out.. But the directions are in the FSM in the BF section and actually pretty detailed.

Make sure you allow a lot of time for the job. I change my sunroof a year ago and it was a total PITA! Took me a day or so and got a broken back.

Yeah sunroof removal is a pain but adjusting the roof panel shouldnt take more than 1 hour at the VERY most... Or stretch it out, make it a "12 pack job" and take a few hours!!

First, I'm going to try and save myself some time and try to sweep whatevers in there out? If not, I'll have to go with plan b (elwesso's idea)
